Lovely butterflies, P. blumei is one of my favorite swallowtails. As a schoolboy in the early 70s I paid £11-00 for a male, about 4 months pocket money at the time.

Blumei was very expensive back then, in 2011 money that equals 200+ pounds($500US) Ornithoptera rothschildi was $1500US back in 1970, today ($30,000)!!!! On the otherhand, papilio lampsacus was $25 in 1970, now $3500US!, o. alexandrae was $300US in 1975, now $5000-8000.... Parnassius apollo, which has seen many ssp. go the way of the Great Auk, Dodo, Moa.....probably will see greatest increase in prices. John

Some P. blumei collected in Perdingan Palolo Lindu (Sulawesi center) in the location pictured above (2008, August). As far I remember, two of them were caught while mud-puddling on the path, the two other flying. Many A. dixoni (males & females), the same day at this right place. Attachments:

P. blumei is a stunning lep.
I caught some in Puncak Palopo, Sulawesi, one of the most beautiful lep I have seen (with C. imperatrix and P. ulysses maybe).
