Hello
Well, I think it depends on the country ebay page. In ebay.es, the ebay page for my country, many people do that, because no fees are applied to shipping costs. Anyways I personally don't think it gives a good image of the seller. It bothers me a bit, to find an article I wanted at a surprisingly cheap price, only to find that the shipping cost are crazy. Even some happy mouse clicking people can find themselves purchasing something at a price they didn't want, with the subsequent problems to both purchaser and seller. It never happened to me, but I don't like that practice anyways.
To sell insects I have to use uk ebay page, because this market doesn't exist in Spain, and there in ebay uk as far as I know the final fee you pay for a sold item is according to the total price of the items AND the shipping cost, so this trick is not possible.
Regarding the debating issue, to sell in ebay can be profitable, of course, but to live from the profits? I guess not. In my short experience, I know that profit can be made. My general idea is try to offer all the good things I expect when it's me the person who buys. If you follow that rule, things will work I suppose. The only problem is that I found out that offer that kind of service can be very time consuming (making, deals, photos, identification, prepare stuff, auctions, parcelling, etc...), so if you have another job, wife, kids, friends, etc... Maybe try to earn money through insects can be difficult, unless you work for a museum or as entomologist in some research center.
Luckily I don't have that problem because I'm a 25 years old animal biologist specialized in insects, wich in Spain rigth now, means no work for the rest of your life ;D Despite the sarcasm I mean lucky because I have much time to work with the insects, but the profit I made, it's not enough to live by myself and not talking to have childs or something like that.
Regards
why don't we sell our expensive items such as goliathus etc for just £1 or $1 "buy now", and if you are wanting, say £150 for a specific specimen, then put the postage fees at £149. ebay cannot charge you for postage fees??
