I very much like your domes papilio28570 but the wholesale cost of glass domes has kept me away from that medium. I especially like the Monarch/Viceroy display. Do you print anything to go with it so that others can read and then learn about the species or butterfly farming? Wouldn't be enough room on the bottom of the domes (I think). I glue them on the back of my frames.

Thank you for reviving this topic. Good information to think about.

Each dome is accompanied by a foldout brochure which describes the adult behavior and environ of the butterfly along with range map and, if room permits, a photo of the butterfly if there is more than one species involved so customer will know which butterfly is being discussed. Also, each dome is labeled with the species name and date and location of capture. I also autograph each dome and date it on the bottom. I will attach four photos in next posts of the Monarch-Viceroy brochure since they are printed in MS Publisher as a 4 page fold out. The inside of the fold contains info about the butterflies and the back provided info about care of the dome.

Fantastic. Very well done. You should have better sales than you described. Color printing is not cheap either.

Lastly, here is a typical data label affixed to the bottom of each dome. Of course, if there is no common name, the scientific nomenclature is used including subspecies. A standard address label is used. I autograph and date each dome bottom on the wood with a Sharpie permanent marker. Any species requiring CITES certificate is accompanied by a scanned copy of the certificate I received when I imported the butterfly Attachments:

Another medium I am playing with but not yet producing is glass cases. Here are some photos of a large beetle mounted in a 6 inch glass cube I made from glass I had cut at the local hardware store. It is quite dramatic when viewed up close to see a beetle with a 6 inch leg span. The beetle is mounted on a small dowel and stick-on foam pads are on the bottom. The edges and corners are very sharp and I am experimenting with ways to minimize risk to customers getting cut when handling the glass cube. Attachments:

Bob, How about using plastic display cases like those used for car models instead of heavy sharp glass? Do you thinks buyers would dislike that; also plastic is too easy to scratch? Alex

I had not considered plastic display cases since quite a number of dome customers ask to be certain I am not using plastic domes. I have found brass corner protectors where 3 sides of glass meet but have not found suitable material to run along the side where two sides meet.

why don't we sell our expensive items such as goliathus etc for just £1 or $1 "buy now", and if you are wanting, say £150 for a specific specimen, then put the postage fees at £149. ebay cannot charge you for postage fees? ? You will only get charged for the £1-$1. I have seen people selling motorcycle engines do the same thing. Only problem you have doing this is combined postage, you would have to sell each specimen seperately.
