Absolutely a fake! But a good one I must admit.

I have seen this before, probably the same specimen, and probably here on Insectnet. Of course it's a fake. It would be interesting to know how it was made, as it seems the bianor hindwing can be folded open. Maybe it was made in the same way they make gynandromorph fakes in South America.

Probably they cut caterpillars of arcturus and bianor in two pieces and glue them together with the piece of the other species. After emerging you have a perfect hybrid like this, where the wings can be foulded ;D

this is maybe done with a razor blade. the technic is to cut the thorax with the blade when the butterfly is alive and to put together the two parts together when fresh. when it dessicated it glued like true glue. the science is how to cut with the blade. in the first time they just cut the body in two equal parts to make bilateral gynandro, after they perfected the technic in cutting"en biais" (I don't know the words in english). the advantage was (with pinned specimens) that even relaxed the two parts continued to be solidar (in the first case, when relaxed, the two parts falled separated from each other). In this case maybe they take just a part of the body with the hindwing attached and "glued" it to teh principal body ! May be today with special glue, they obtain better result that allowed to relax specimens without consequences note in this case that the body has been manipulated (no more legs, scales missing, thorax injured, HW incriminated seems not so naturelly attached to the body, .... why not imagine that imaginal disks can be moved from a caterpillar to another ! This probably needs a serious experience and training, why not in the future ?
