The latter imported from Oz? I once heard that Samia cynthia was found around Auckland many years ago. Is it still extant?

yes, O eucalyptii found its way here, and is very common now. i have wondered that myself actually, i heard Samia cynthia still exist from specimens that escaped from Auckland University, but that report was 2002. they feed on (Ailanthus potentia) and these trees are actually in albert park that i remember. i wonder if anyone has been to the park to check. and if they do still exist, have they ventured outside the park in distribution too..

Hi nzwings, do you have any of the Aenetus for sale or exchange? I collect Hepialidae and have been after this beauty for many years. I was promised some by another New Zealander but they never came. Cheers, Dave

Cheers, Dave I thinks pm's are best for these posts Awesome moths by the way, I guess O. eucalypti is not a bad intruder as Eucalytus are not native to NZ either which happens to be the primary food plant. Not destructive like possums.
