My dads Koi pond has had visit from snakes, bull frogs, raccoons, herons, local stray cats and even a bob cat. We have problems keeping the fish alive for more than a few months. Two weeks ago we bought a fresh new set of gold fish and put them in the pond. A few days later they were all gone again. I went out Saturday night with a spot light and found this guy. My first Alligator Snapping Turtle from the wild. We have found a couple of Common snappers in the pond but never an Alligator Snapping Turtle. www.gather.com/viewSlideshow.action?albumId=36825

Nice pic. Think this topic is better for porch light.

Great photo...and well done for surviving a close encounter with one of these beasts!
I've watched one feeding (in captivity) and the amount of damage they can do with that mouth of theirs' is PHENOMINAL - no wonder the goldfish didn't survive long!

Trying to find some old pics. My buddy had a baby alligator snapper bite thru the tip of his finger.

Meet my buddy "Crunch!" he has visited hundreds of kids (I'm a retired teacher and use critters other than my insect endeavors to educate the public) over the years and has grown to 135 pounds. He might have trouble fitting into your goldfish pond!--HR Attachments:
