If you have to stop by a gas station after dark, you should always have a net in the car. I found myself chasing this guy all over the parking lot with only an envelope. I finally pulled him out of the air with my bare hand, but scuffed him up and put finger smudges all over the wings. I think I am going to go put my old net in the car right now. At least with a net in my hand, I won't look like some madman running around the parking lot aimlessly. It will look like I have some purpose in my madness. Attachments:

Nice catch, yes it is a good thing to have a net or jars handy because you never know when.

Been there, done that, ...read the book. I'm sure we could all share some similar stories. When I last paid the price by forgetting a net, I put one of my older nets in the Jeep and keep it there year-round. If space is a premium, one can buy a collapsable net which really takes up next-to-no space. I've found that the inside vehicle cieling is great place to keep one, for it is out of the way. One of my good collecting buddies (I won't reveal his name for his pride's sake) missed out on a honey of a bug this spring because he, too, had no net in his vehicle. I currently have a 20 ft. net extension piece (me [6' plus arms 2']+ [regular 7' net] + [20' extension] = 35 ft. of total reach) for those high up ones as well. Once I pulled my Jeep along side the wall of a carwash and climbed on top of the jeep (standing on the roof itself) to nab a moth. Of course, as luck would have it, a cop pulled up while I was doing this. Luckily he had a sense of humor and realized I was one of those crazed insect goons. I was probably the topic of conversation at his next doughnut break

I think we have all been in the same situation sometime in our lives. Just remember the old American Express tagline "Don't leave home without it".

I now have a net permanently stationed in my car. I just need to find the parts so I can put a removable handle on it to make it a bit longer yet still not take up a large swath of real estate in my car. Now I don't have to look like a madman running around aimlessly in the parking lot. I can now look like one of those deranged bug collectors madly swing a net as I run around the parking lot.

My pocket net comes apart in 5 sections. Fits easily in my "man" purse. Another reason its nice is you can extend or shorten your handle. Even though the net collapses only do this while flying, missed a couple nice specimens along the way trying to get my net situated. Not matter what you do a person with a net running around at all hours is surefire for drawing attention. Hope you make some nice finds!
