I am bored and want to go out collecting, but we keep having rain at night here. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the rain, but I wish it would fall during the day. When you have DSPS (Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome) the nights can grow very long if you don't have some sort of night time hobby to keep you busy while everybody else sleeps. Why am I telling you all this? Because I got bored and took a photo of my live insect area. I figured while I am doing nothing else, I could share my tiny little pet insect collection. From left to right you have dermestids that I use to clean the occasional skeleton that comes my way; Dinah and Titan, my Dynastes tityus couple; my Eacles imperialis caterpillars, which just hatched out today; my mantids, an adult in the vertical one in the back and an early instar one in the little terrarium in front of it; and in the plastic drawer underneath is my mealworm colony. All the stuff on top of them is to keep my cats from getting comfortable up there. The older one, Luna, (many of you probably remember her) loves to sleep up there. I soon realized that while she snoozed up there, she was dropping flea eggs into the containers and I wound up with flea colonies in with my other insects. It was quite a surprise to me when I reached in to feed Dinah and Titan only to find my hand swarmed with fleas! Attachments:
