Great article Charlie - thanks for sharing the link.
It's nice to read an unbiased article which doesn't portray collectors as either lunatics or insect "murderers".

We are portraid as 'insect murderers' by idiot pseudo-ecologists, with economic benefits from the pseudo-ecologic organisations they usually belong to, who, in order to justify their existence, attack scientists entomologists and collectors. They usually are just photographers of insects, clearly not scientists entomologically, with limited knowledge on insects' biology, behaviour, correct identification etc (I know some of them who have many ID errors in their books/sites ,-as known, scientific studies in entomology and taxonomy are impossible without collection- ) and support fanatically that nonsense that all species are threatened cause of collecting interest, while the scientifically proved reason for this is habitat destruction (here to mention that I don't support/have never done myself massive over-collecting for clearly economic benefits, but even this is a minor threat compared to habitat destruction which drives to extinction local populations of/or even totally a species). These people -if had honest ecologic feelings- should take real action against fires, clearance of important habitats/forests for the construction of roads/other works or even luxurious houses of politicians and other rich men, or for cultivation, against the use of pesticides near important natural ecosystems, etc. But behind these destructive for nature activities there are big economic benefits you see...,so they attack the 'easy target', the collectors, taking advantage of people's lack of knowledge on insects, and the 'cruel look' of killing a big beautiful butterfly (this is why all the 4 Cites I species are ALL big and impressive Papilionidae, and not much more threatened -not by collectors- small dark Hesperiids or Coleoptera, etc). Such pseudo-ecologists are many in number and organised well behind organisations and they convince the law-makers to 'protect' even and even more insect species with stupid and unfair laws against scientists entomologists and collectors. If we leave them free, and our voice is nowhere, I'm pretty sure that in a few years, the insect collection will be totally prohibited (they will protect even Pieris brassicae and most pests of crops !) ,the science of entomology will become extinct, and sadly the children of the future with an inclination and love for insects, will be unable to cultivate their talents/interests and be the future entomologists, cause of the stupid laws that pseudo-ecologists enforced due to their economic benefits, if not cause not a single butterfly will exist in some years (especially in Europe) cause of habitat destruction for the economic purposes of the REAL criminals of this world, who are not we, the collectors..,but the rotten politicians who care only for money, the war/economic criminals of nations, the destructors of nature..
