To all the Brits on here, take heed! APRIL 12TH 2012 DEADLINE: There is currently an EU public consultation about invasive alien species. The reptile trade are very concerned about this because they feel the results may be used as an excuse to prohibit the keeping of non-native reptiles. And of course this might be applied to a ban on keeping non-native insects. The general public and organisations can complete the on-line questionnaire before April 12th 2012 so their views are recorded. The questionnaire is quite short and easy to complete. I think the general public need to know that there is a vocal group of people who are trying to distance the connection between people and animals. And proposals for yet more legislation restricting the movement of animals may well be used as a means for denying people the opportunity of looking after creatures. The deadline is April 12th 2012. Here's the link ec.europa.eu/environment/consultations/invasive_aliens.htm

you watch them ban dead stock also dave. I can see just where they are heading. Importation of reptiles and insects is the third largest classification of imported goods in the world. I wonder if this is because of the cerambycidae that was in the papers this week running amock in the uk? by the way mate, i haven't forgotten about your paps, they are still yours mate, just been flat out with work.

I guessed that Pete. I can see Europe becoming like the U.S.A. with fees for everything. Even if they ban all imports pest species will still find their way in, they always find a way! I did the questionnaire they have and made my opinions very clear, I hope many others do likewise. Thanks for the Paps Pete, I guessed you had a lot on your plate! DAve

Thanks for the info people. I did my part too. Hope all European entomologists fill in the questionnaire. It only takes 5 minutes.
Voice your opinion now before it is too late.

looks like the situation here may have come into play. The customs have place a hold on a parcel of mine coming from tanzania, not because of importation queries or tax queries either. They want to know how they were killed, what with, and how do i intend to store the specimens. I explained all to them and now they are getting in touch with animal health and sending them the answers i gave in an email. I had a parcel stopped for the same reason three weeks ago from uganda, but not with the same customs office. One was in coventry and the other in manchester. It may get harder folks.....
