6/28 big lake, AK...had pretty bad overcast and rain but managed to find some sun over nearby spruce bogs.

It’s great you saw Papilio machaon. When I was there I saw none, but did see plenty of canadensis

I don't know if you're going up to the North Slope, but I've been there twice and the collecting is spectacular IF you get the weather.

There ought to be a bunch of Erebia species this time of the year... perhaps a bit further north?
Were the P. machaon fresh? They (and the glaucus ssp) were all in tatters when I was there this time of year, many seasons ago...

There ought to be a bunch of Erebia species this time of the year... perhaps a bit further north? Were the P. machaon fresh? They (and the glaucus ssp) were all in tatters when I was there this time of year, many seasons ago... jh Ditto on the canadensis.

Yes the machaon were fresh (and small!)

Sorry for going ghost. I had a lot happen this week! Truck got stuck near a wetland, had a problem with the ignition, and managed to lose my phone in a bog after snapping a pic of a boloria. Thankfully it was old and needing replacement anyway. Barely any non bug wildlife out here except for a bald eagle and a moose. 6/29 park highway toward Fairbanks... All of these are new for me except chariclea, so I'm having a blast. I didn't get to go up the Dalton due to weather and car issues. Will have to do another trip specifically for that a little earlier in the year for a couple of weeks.
