Dear members, For the first time, an entomological pin supplier wants to know what our needs in entomological pins are. ENTOPINS FOLCH (sponsor of this forum) wants to produce the best entomological pins ever. They already have stronger pins than the classic Czech or Polish pins most of us are using. This can be very useful for all beetle collectors as some species have a very thick body ( Goliathus, Carabus...). To improve their research with customer insights, Josep Folch, the founder of Entopins Folch, has developed a questionnaire for you. There are few questions to answer and to send to Josep Folch (his email is at the end of the questionnaire). Please note that : - the first 25 members who answer the questionnaire will receive FREE entomological pins from Entopins - all members who answer the questionnaire will get a 20% discount on a future order in Entopins shopHere is the link to download the questionnaire : Entopins QuestionnaireIt is the first time I see a supplier asking questions to insect collectors. I find this approach very smart and consumer-oriented. So I hope many of you will answer. If you want to know more about Entopins, here you can download a company presentation about them : Entopins presentationPlease post a message in this thread when you have sent the questionnaire to them.

I completed it and sent it.
Interesting cultural difference, in USA we refer to pins in sizes 00 - 5. While I prefer metric, and can generally translate between the two, their use of mm is foreign to me. I could go put a mic on a #3 pin, but too much effort. So if they are going to sell in USA they are going to have to equate them to standard sizes.

I sent one as well and included a suggestion for a new product...fingers crossed.
Hey Chuck, I was assuming they were the sizes correlating for 000 through 7, was that not what the sizes were?

I don’t know for certain. I could mic them but no time. So I guessed.

On their website, they have them listed with both number and size, so the 0.35 is size 0 and 0.6 is size 5. That works out so that 0.25 is size 000 and 0.7 is size 7

That works out so that 0.25 is size 000 and 0.7 is size 7 Thanks for visiting our site, we understand that the numbers are more important than the sizes we will keep this on mind, our idea is to build the full range of the insect pins that are actually in the market, steadily, we have started with the pin size 2 ( diam 0.45 mm) and we will keep going up and down, and depending of this questionnaire will go faster in one direction or another, we are also introducing new materials, that we will be happy that everybody could test and evaluate. Thanks Josep.
I think most people prefer stainless steel pins.
I would not like the flat head pins. But also, I don't like when the head falls off the round pin.
Not sure about others, but I have about 300 size 00 pins for setting specimens. Most of what I use- many a year- are size 3. I'm guessing many other people also use this size most often.

Man I wish I could catch enough large specimens to mostly use size 3 pins. I do catch some, but most often I catch smaller specimens that require size 000-2. I guess I also prefer the black pins (no lost pin heads and less issue of spinning specimens in my experience). I'm glad that they're taking a survey so that they can collect data from a lot of individuals rather than relying on generalizations.
