Well fella's, Finally, spring has sprung here in the Great lakes region.
Today I cited My first Cabbage butterfly (Pieris rapae) at 12:43 in my backyard here in Illinois. A short while later a second one flew through the backyard at 12:57 and the forsythia bushes are in bloom; so all is (nearly) right with the world once again !

Saw the first butterflies, Pieris rapae, on Monday although I haven't really been on the lookout so they may have been out before. More surprisingly, I saw a Psychomorpha epimenis as well. Usually I don't see them until the end of April.

There's a name I am not familiar with so I looked it up. Pretty little dayflier !
I can't say that I've ever seen or encountered it but, it is attractive and hard to miss when present. A grapevine feeder. I've run across wild grapevine from time to time and have only very sporadically found the Eight-spotted forester (Alypia octomaculata); another very attractive species !
I actually don't even recall the last time that I saw an Alypia.

Great to hear Paul !
Here in the Great Lakes region the trees are mostly all budding now and things are really starting to green up.
I saw two Carpenter bees (Xylocopidae) in my backyard today buzzing around loudly and occasionally "hovering" in place.
I suppose these small improvements in seeing something living and flying about with the first warming days of spring always brings excitement to those of us in northerly regions.
