Yesterday, 7 June 2021, I travelled to Killdeer Plains WA to check my five (5) Bait Traps for both Butterflies and Moths. I also checked all fourteen pheromone(14) Traps for adult Sessidae moths. Several pheromone traps contained a small number of very common species plus two rather tinny Sessidae moths that I was unable to identity. The most common species collected in the pheromone traps were Synanthedon ascerni, Synanthedon exitiosa, Paranthrene simulans, Sesia spartani and Paranthrene pellucida. There were more than 25+ Sessid moths in each trap.
I also collected a female Paranthrene simulans on the wing. I have enclosed her with several twigs of some common Oaks.
I also collected a Colias philodice female with a net while checking the Sessid traps. I retained the Colias philodice female for ova as well. A Sessidae was in the net with the Colias.
I will travel tomorrow AM to the Grand River WA to set out more Pheromone Traps and check my Bait Traps.
I spent well over two(2) hours spreading specimens of Sessidae this afternoon.

They currently reside on spreading boards.
I will be traveling to Lake La Su An Wildlife Area in NW Ohio today or possibly early next week. I have numerous traps set out at Lake La Su An Wildlife Area. To date I have had very little luck with Sessidae this year. I was hopeing to find severaI species of Butterflies and Sessidae moths associated with Prarie areas in the Lake La Su An Wildlife Area. Especially Chlosyne harrisii.

I visited all of my Sessidae Pheromone Traps at Kill Deer Plains and then up to Lake La Su An Wildlife Area. It had been over a week since my last visit to .Lake La Su An Wildlife Area. I came home with about 50+ Sessidae moths. I collect three UFO's. I have tentatively identified them as Paranthrene tabaniformis. They are currently in my relaxer (Rehydrate). I will mount them later today.
A non Lep related observations. While at Kill Deer Plains WA, I was sorting a light trap. Movement a short distance up the two track road from my car caught my attention. A Momma Fox with four (4) pups were sitting in the middle of the two track road. I sat still for several minutes. When I got up to get my camera she disappeared, along with her pups in an instant.
I also collected several Lycaena phlaeas (American Coppers). They were present but not abundant. I only found males. Colias philodice were extremely abondant.

Being retired helps. Being a Widow helps as well. (I would prefer it to be otherwise.) I am able to go collecting, exploring or just travelling to see the country.
I also enjoy mounting specimens.
I am planning on a collecting trip beginnimg next week. South Dakota and Montana. I am debating on either Oregon or Washington. The only really good part of travelling alone, I can go whenever and wherever I want. I will take a number of Pheromone Traps for Sessidae, several Bait Traps and I am limiting myself to just two Light Traps. This should be a real adventure.
