Possible termite? Long Island, NY

Found this crawling on my basement carpet and worried it might be a termite (no other signs around the basement seem to point to that though). Bug is a little more than 1/2 inch long. Located in Long Island, NY.

No, it is not a termite. It is one of the species belonging to Staphylinidae. It's a kind of beetle.
