I need some advice . Many times when taking dried specimens out of my relaxer , even after several days , I find I struggle with the wings bridging at the base .during pinning. I can of course push them down but I hate to smudge scales off. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated.
If the wings are not flexible enough try to hold one with forceps very near the thorax, right at the base and gently manipulate up and down, after a while you can try slightly to the front. After some time the wings should be flexible good enough to successfully be spread on the board. Injection of warm water into the thorax near the wings also helps to relax large size specimen.
