Since this year's circumstances have basically eliminated butterfly collecting and I have concentrated on moths instead, there were a couple of issues I wasn't really aware of. One was the use of tracing and not wax paper during the pinning process as detailed here. This other video discusses degreasing a stained abdomen, something I never thought could be a possible issue.
I ask so many questions normally, I felt it was past time to try giving something in return, so I hope you find these videos useful.

Why does covid eliminate butterfly collecting? I still go to forest, to meadows and parks. Usually there are none or very few people around. I didn't, I don't and I won't lock myself in my own prison. |

It eliminates it for me because I am not going in any grocery stores for bananas this year. Since apples could be frozen, I decided to try apples and sugar but it didn't work. I don't really live in an area where I can go and collect out in the open, so that basically leaves me at home, either with my baited lep traps or my light at night. Difficulty in obtaining bait eliminated the traps and that left the light at night. I did have a Buddleia last summer, and it brought in plenty of interesting specimens, but it died this year because it didn't get enough sun.

Where are you? Aside from some countries that ban the study of insects, even the most urban environment is only 20 minutes from butterflies. Chuck

Aah thanks, I couldn't see any difference in the font in the original post. There was another post like this recently from a different user where people started replying to a post with a link I couldn't see, as this was the second I thought I'd question it. I've just found the first one again and I still can't see any difference, but if I just click randomly on the words it eventually finds a link. |
