Personally, I came across a situation of an ethnic couple in throws of a fight, Sorry what does "ethnic couples" mean ? We all belong to an ethnie, I must be a mix between Celts and Germans. Sounds like a new political correctness term from the US. Ethnic: sharing common traits, etc. per Wikipedia. "Germans" is a highly variable term. It means people from Germany, a region which has exhibited extremely flexible geographic range over a relatively short period of time. Germanic refers to those descended from the Tribes, though to what proportion of heritage one can claim I do not know. Undoubtedly there was great mixing of the Celtic tribes with the Germanic invaders (as there always is) followed by mixing with French and Scandanavians, and as of late, Ottomans and Kurds. For example, Angela Markle would claim Bavarians are German, whereas many Bavarians would agree only grudgingly. Now to take it to an extreme, walk into a working-class pub in Hamburg during a football game and announce "Bayern IST Deutschland!"...then run. Chuck

Google this; "What does ethnic mean". On top of the search comes out; "relating to a population subgroup (within a larger or dominant national or cultural group) with a common national or cultural tradition." Like you say Olivier, we all belong to an ethnicity. Some more than others. Luckily some are part this ethnicity, part that ethnicity. These people usually have moved on to understand not all are like themselves. Since the whole world, at least in some societies, are made up of only white people ("Caucasian" in the US), anything else than that standard may be considered "ethnic". White is the center of earth. How often do we not see a Hollywood movie where you hear the sentence "would you like to eat something ethnic?" It is the assumption that if it is not white, then it is ethnic - all other races than white are ethnic. It is a boring thread about nothing and nobody is forcing me to be part of it. I just wanted to make a point on the "ethnic" thing. It will likely not be perceived well everywhere, but what can we do about that? Jan

I like ethnic Greek food. Not fusion Greek or Americanized Greek. Not tourist Greek. Ethnic Greek. Like the food in tiny restaurants on the coast. Ethnic Greek. Is that non-white Greek? I’m confused.

I was avoiding this thread, it's not an interesting topic to me, but today, must be slow... You guys are on dicey ground with this "ethnic" "topic". It's perception in my opinion, and if no one has noticed, which is pretty much impossible, right now the USA is being ripped apart by perception. I have my own definition of ethnic, formed from experience and upbringing, both of which clash at times. Right now, in the USA, you'd probably be fired from your job by asking a co-worker to go to lunch and eat "ethnic" food...

Maybe. But I can’t stand fusion anything or foods changed for a foreign taste. Ingredients of course may offer limitations, but I prefer ethnic foods.
Chinese sucks outside of China. And Thai. Turkish too. I don’t want to hurt feeling of restaurant owners so lie and say it tastes just like in Sakarya. We both know it sucks. Somehow germans get decent Greek but not Americans. That’s unethical. Not to mention being an ethic problem for ethnic eaters.

Subject; "ethnic couple having a fight". The usual distraction at play here.... talking about something else than the ethnic couple. If the couple having a fight had been white, that would not have been specified. In this case they were observed by a white person, so it is specified that the couple was "ethnic". The "ethnic" couple was a racial specification in the text, that could have been omitted, but was not. So it must have been important to specify, for whatever purpose it served. Like I said above, the white race is perceived the center of earth. All other races circle around whites, thus THE OTHER RACES are "ethnic".

Well. I did it again. Let me rephrase that. They were not ethnic. How about a Chunky Porker and a sleazy Buck Stud.
Just like several of my Ethnic posts on Face Book. Some car"s have Italian tires. Dego up hill, dego down will, and when Dego flat, Dego whoop whoop whoop.....
That should get me into some hot water.
This will surely be deleted like some of my Face Book Post's.
But the way, I am 5% German, 5% British, and 5% Polish. And the other 85%, pure Rectal Orifice.

You should hear some of the Palagi (Polynesian for white person) jokes in the Pacific.
So I was with a Melanesian whose black as night and a Polynesian. We are all good friends. The Melanesian addressed both of us with “You two Palagi...” and you should have seen the Polynesians eyes! He got called white with a word from his own language. The Polynesian protested, the Melanesian offered a look at his arm and said “you look the same to me.” I was in tears!

Maybe I should. I was attempting a little humor.
As far as my departure from Insectnet. I received private emails that wanted me to stick around.
I will keep it to Lepidoptera only. My personal life is off limits.

Well, that broke some ice. I'm glad I didn't get lambasted for my comment about nuclear waste... back to this ethnic topic- Maybe I can safely say what I've always thought about different peoples. I think as a survival strategy from the past, humans group people different from themselves, you could call that what you like. Consciously or subconsciously, people tend to put others in a box, and just by a few words, the mind typically forms an image. Don't want to be in a box? Step out of it.

Don’t change one little bit.

My personal life is off limits. Well, if your personal life is off limits, then all readers shouldn't need to worry about flatulence interference in every other thread. That would be so so great actually! Even if a handful of people here seem amused by repeated stories of flatulence and alike, I think most readers here on the forum have grown up and out of such childish stuff. Humour is supposed to be fun, but flatulence stories mostly appeal to little giggling kids. Well, I hope the good persons who recommended you to remain on the forum, after the mishaps, will look out for you good. I have a life outside of social media platforms, but I may pass by here every now and then and make some noise. Looking forward to not hear about flatulence, cunnili..., etc. Jan

Oops Leroy you’ve offended the humorless pompous snowflakes. Humor is a little subjective, mine has been complimented as "interesting" may have been one of the words. Humor is everywhere, even in tragedy, it may be insensitive, but nevertheless. I was going to edit my last post on the ethnic topic, but decided against it- One other thing I come to realize over 56 years of existence, is that stereotypes exist for a reason, something I thinly alluded to earlier. That's why there are bad jokes about everything and everyone. Living to offend the easily offended could be a calling.
