Just talked to CK Swank. He went gas-station hopping Monday night & came back with a pair of Polyphemus moths. He also got a female giant leopard moth & about 20 acrea moths. It looks like the new season is getting started in the Houston area, although it's supposed to be cold again for the next few days.

Paul, how do you feel about our southern brethren?

Last night I joined some friends for dinner in Vermilion, Ohio at McGarvey's Steakhouse under the bridge(US6) on the Vermilion River. As I exited US6 and came to a red light, I saw several European White Birch trees with numerous Polyphemus cocoons.
I have seen a fair number of Cecropia cocoons in the Aurora/Solon, Ohio area. I have not actually looked for Promeathia cocoons, but there in plenty of wild cherry and Sassafras along the roadways.
Maybe next year.

Exoticimports, I'm not trying to tease the people who are snowed in. I'm just reporting on what's flying. If this group doesn't want to hear it, I'll stop reporting.

The reality is that while we are snowed in Ornithoptera are flying around my friends gardens. It is painful. But don’t stop reporting on studies and flights. It just hurts. But we can take it I hope. Hi 58chevy, I live in the Houston area. How can I contact CK Swank to go together on the hunt? I was unlucky to find empty/dead polyphemus cocoons in the fall on deciduous oak trees.
