Boy.... I have to thank you all. After I posted that I’ve never caught a semirelicta, I took my drawer of 60 unijuga and found out that I had indeed collected 3. What I thought were mere variations actually weren’t. I poured over images and features listed at Bill O.’s site and voila. Three of what I thought were unijuga turned out to be semirelicta......they had an open subreniform spot coupled with an inner HW black band that didn’t get near the anal fold and had a stronger FW second set of teeth outside the PM line. I marked them as fairly sure for ID w a size 6 font label telling how I came to my determination. These guys are real tough.

Can we see a picture billg. of those semirelicta ? To the best of my knowledge I have never picked up that species but, I always enjoy looking at Catocala of any kind. On our other forum bobw posted a splendid photograph of 5 fresh examples which he bred this year from eggs. Wonderful looking large species...

Ok. You should know that I’m going to send pic off for confirmation soon. Also, my label at left did not mention the teeth factor which I forgot to include. The three moths meet all three criteria (my cut off point....especially the inner band not extending to the anal fold) where the unijugas may have one or two of the others. I may be wrong and am open to being told so with reasons. I’m just an old goon doing my best.

I've got most of my Catocala pinned up. I am happy with what I got from my fairly limited collecting time. Several new species this year like serena, angusi, and palaeogama. I tend to paper extra, nice quality specimens once I have a couple/few nice specimens in my own collection so hence the small series. Please let me know if you feel I may have some misidentified. Here are my current pinned holdings. Enjoy!

Nice looking arrangement. You’ve come along way. Btw.....just so you know, I can’t read the ID labels. You are one lucky guy to get dulciola.

Bill, your specimens don't look like semirelicta to me. In semirelicta the HW black band is usually much narrower and doesn't reach the anal margin so much as your 3 specimens. You can see a small series I bred at collector-secret.proboards.com/attachment/download/3513 (right-hand column).

Possibly those of us who cannot see the photos are being blocked because you may not have allowed general public visibility for the photos. Of course you can always see your own photos, but most or all other people cannot. Adam.

Bobw,
Thnx for the clarification. Are the three then just variations of unijuga? The HWs, although not narrower, are reduced compared to the rest of the unijugas. Thoughts? I have no experience with semirelicta......any further ID features to note would be most helpful. Thnx.

Hey bobw, prior to billg. posting his photo of his series I mentioned in my previous post (in passing) that he should take a look at your bred semirelicta on the other forum. They are a wonderful series and its always good to see several of something to denote key features.

Mothman27,
Those are two wonderful drawers of cats you have ! A very nice selection of species... Thank you for sharing.
Is it possible we could see them a little closer to check your label names ? Maybe just take a half a drawer picture at a time and the clarity of the labels will show and the specimens will appear larger. Just a suggestion because I'd like a closer look myself at some of them I may not have seen.
You have several of the smaller species represented nicely in contrast !
I also think you need another drawer by next summer for "expansion space"; Xmas is coming... One can never have TOO many Catocala !
Exoticimports is gonna' love that last statement !!
