All the above is true, I only use riker mounts for making displays for family and friends, while I love my family, and like my friends- I can afford glass cases for Kevin only.
Fortunately, riker mounts are inexpensive, and I learned that buying them from an entomological supply yields a better product. They also ship well.

Fortunately, riker mounts are inexpensive, and I learned that buying them from an entomological supply yields a better product. They also ship well. The shadow boxes from dollar store are less expansive ($1.25) and they look a lot better than Rikers to hang them on the wall for display. Plus if you seal them with a silicone they are super airtight, no pest, no mould. I used to do them for my friends as a gift, I have few on my walls.

Agreed Paul K, I have some fairly deep wooden boxes from the craft store I use for large beetles, I don't think I'd call them shadow boxes though. They have hinges and a little metal clasp, but they do seem pest resistant,at least so far.I use white foam poster board to raise the bottom and give some surface for pinning or glueing. I've had intermittent luck at GoodWill buying frames as well.
