Despite wonderful weather the past few days, virtually nothing is flying in the mountains of east Tennessee. I've seen a couple of cabbage butterflies and one tiger swallowtail. No virginiensis, Anthocaris, etc. Only hibernator was one red admiral today. I saw a Celastrina or two in March, but none since.
We had the wettest February on record, with daytime highs constantly well below average in Feb. and March. Wonder if that led to a lot of fungus probs for pupae?

I am planning to go for search of Anthocharis midea in south Pensylvania, probably south of Pittsburg as there are sightings recorded on the web. Does anyone can confirm if they are on the wing yet. I am thinking to go there 26/27 of April. This is gonna be only two days trip and I don’t want to miss their fly period.
If anyone knows good spot in that area or somewhere else in S.Pensylvania any tips would be great.
Thanks Paul

I’ll let you know if I see anything. Pennsylvania is a little at the edge of the range though.

They are still on the wing in Central Kentucky. Males are worn, females look okay

Saw a fresh male in my backyard today. Here in southern Illinois they emerged about a week ago.

PS. I’m surprised that no one on the forum is from Pittsburgh area.

I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio. I understand SW Pennsylvania. You must be able to read and write to use the internet!

What do you mean, that was terrible. Did I say something that was not true?
I am a native of Cleveland, Ohio. I am a Clevelander. If I was from Chicago, I would be a Chicagoan. What do call someone from Pittsburg. A Pittsburger (Does that come with Pickles and Onions?)
Every time I visit Pittsburgh, I get Gas. And that is a good thing. When I break Wind, I improve the air quality and the odor, or more basically the essence of Pittsburgh.

And if anyone is interested if I found some A.midea in Pittsburg: As per forecast it is cloudy and only high 10°C for today and yesterday was partly cloudy and cold and windy too. I didn’t do the trip as per bad weather. Here in Toronto we have a nice sunny day today ( Apr 28 ) and...6°C ( feels like 2°C ). I didn’t see any Pieris rapae as of now, only one Nymphalid flew by three days ago and I suppose it was V.atalanta coming too early from south. The spring is very late this year again and it happened already about 4th year in the row ( if I remember correctly, maybe more). I am not sure if this is a normal cycle or if global climate change has something to do with it. Anyhow I am tired of it.
