Anyone do business with Charlie Limmer, from NY? He posts here in the classifieds quite often. I contacted him back in Oct 2017 asking for Ornithoptera in A1- quantity. He replied kindly with some specimens and prices and said he'll get back with me after a collecting trip of some sort. He never did get back with me. So I contacted him today asking for Ornithoptera vic because I want to replace my current A2 male specimen. I mentioned that I bought mine for $70 in A1-. He replied back in a rude manner and acting as if I don't know the difference between A1 and A1-. I guess he automatically assumed I wanted to buy his top specimens for $70? Or perhaps he woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Nonetheless, I refuse to do business with him because of his crazy all-caps email reply. Yikes.
I've seen some pretty "explosive" replies left by this individual on some of these threads. That alone would tell me that he is not a person to get mixed up with. Sorry, to hear that you had to find out the hard way.
I am buying regularly from Charlie, and he always delivered high quality, gave great discounts and out in some freebies. Never had any issues, and my brother met him back in New York once, was very kind, and they had a great time. Perhaps just call him and talk on the phone, emails might create misunderstandings sometimes. I buy around 200 specimens every year from him, or more.

To all of you: Business and Communication, are joined at the hip......Both are "TWO-WAY STREETS"....drawing your conclusions, without simple discourse is both unfair and quite short-sighted. Make an effort, I'm very accessible,...and I've been at this for 6 decades! Please, don't expect apologies from me. Just pick up a phone.....631-368-2933. Charlie Limmer New York, Costa Rica
Phanaeus1-Gosh,here we go again! C.Limmer! some months ago i purchased some Argema Mittrei(mounted in shadow boxes)" Chas" did a good job shipping them and they arrived in decent shape( as one would hope)- BUT a while later, i sent some specimens to him for trade/credit plus a total of several hundred $ in money orders to purchase more specimens.Isent along a request for some items i would like to recieve in exchange that i was told he had in stock.i recieved a few specimens i had asked for, but a good portion of the specimens were things i allready had, didnt order(or want) and the specimens i did actually order were in poor shape/ one lep had an upper wing that was a good quarter inch larger than the other=it was glued on to replace the original severely damaged wing and only a sight challenged novice would have accepted That!Another butterfly, in a Riker mount(an Ornithoptera)had the wings bent about a 1/4 inch from the body, which a careless butterfly mounter might do, since they couldnt/wouldnt actually spread the specimen fully OPEN(or take the time to do so)There was other damage to the specimens: too obvious to ignore. When i had the timerity to send the junk back, THATS when the dung beetles hit the fan!the guy is Extremely Volatile, excuse ridden, cunning, and got me for at least $200.00 dollars.I have tried being kind and reasonable, but after all his insultive behavior i have finally thrown in the towel! as having to massage his ego to get whats rightfully yours is a noxious waste of Time.
Other question for you, do you have Cites permit for the Ornitho you are offering ?
If the answer is "no" would anyone (never mind Charles Limmer) actually say that here?
Most individuals and some dealers have no CITES paperwork for specimens being sold. Not that they are illegal, just that the paperwork rarely accompanies each specimen, and often gets lost along the path of years and hands exchanged.
"Gentleman" - I "tripped" across this forum once again ( after thinking that it had been discontinued ). Regarding CITES PERMITS;....Simply place an order, and pay for it! If you don't receive the copy of the appropriate CITES documents,...THEN YOU CAN RUN YOUR MOUTH! OLIVIER, YOU HAVE A SHORT MEMORY!!YOU ASKED, I POSTED THE PERMITS, THEN, SUBSEQUENTLY REMOVED THEM, AFTER I FELT YOUR QUERY HAD BEEN SATISFACTORILY ANSWERED. I WILL PRIVATELY SEND YOU PHOTOCOPIES UPON REQUEST. I DON'T WANT ANYONE MAKING COPIES, OTHER THAN MYSELF!! Charlie Limmer

Hi all, is anyone here from australia? i brought a lot of butterflies from Charles a little while ago threw ebay. On arrival i found he did bats aswell ehich is what i am mainly in search for but he left a note saying now that i have purchased threw ebay and have his info he will only sell via email and i have to pay by either bank transfer or paypal friends and family and if i purchase threw ebay again the order will be cancelled. If i pay by goods and services the order will not be shipped. It normally wouldnt bother me if we had a long term relationship but this was after my first ever purchase. And there is no garentee that the bats will get threw customs post covid. Im just wondering if anyone on here is from australia and has brought bats from him post covid?

I made assumptions based on email and then found him to be very cordial when I called. It seems two different people but is not. I ordered bats from him 2 months ago and they were better than others I've ordered from. After 3 large orders I am confident. One order was missing some morphos. I called thinking I would have trouble. I was wrong! He found there was an error and sent them and paid the extra shipping cost too. He sent extras too!
A call is all it took. He was kind to me. I've ordered O.rothschildia too with a good price and great quality.
Order or don't but MY experiences have all been very positive.

I would use classic Paypal (not Family & Friends) with a seller you don't know perfectly.
It's called "friends and family" for a reason. You cannot recover or make a claim using that payment method. I've had people who I've done business with multiple times still use "goods and services", it's just buyer protection, although there was a thread which a member detailed a flaw in the goods and services method exploited by clever persons, but that was a scam by buyers- not sellers. I always use goods and services for new contacts, and if I ever get scammed not following my own advice, I'm not going to mention it here.
I have never had any dealings with one Charles Limmer. His name has appeared on this forum a number of times. Some good, some not so good.
I have read some very aggressive comments by Mr. Limmer in responses to his business dealings.
I do not buy or sell specimens. I have a difficult time processing what I collect. I enjoy being a Lepidopterists. From what I have seen and/or read about Mr. Limmer, I would look elsewhere. That's just me.
However, should Mr. Limmer offer/have something that you would like or need, weigh the good and not so good. Use this forum to post the results of your transactions/dealings with Mr. Limmer. I just get a big kick out of reading his responses.
An I am positive that Mr. Limmer "will" respond to this post.
I'll jump back into this one. I bought some Ornithoptera stock using Ebay from Dr. Limmer, it hasn't arrived yet. My contact with the Dr. was concise, having read varying opinions, I was intrigued how things would go. I wrote several "messages to seller", and trashed them before deciding on a final. I asked about collection data, the response was quick, and concise, I deal with many people in my work as a tradesperson, and in regular life, the mistake that people make when dealing with a new person is not using tact, and a little humility will go a long way. My guess is that persons who have negative experiences with Dr. Limmer have failed to use tact, am I the most tactful person around? No. I do know the pecking order in experience however, you come off like a know it all, or even a peer to an individual, and you may get a dose of reality. I've seen grown men brought to tears at work by a journeyman, after coming off like they knew everything about the trade. That's just life, you can certainly complain about being cut down to size, but you probably handed someone an axe.
