Kons and Borth, 2017, have described a new Catocala species from Bastrop County, Texas. Catocala bastropi replaces the very similar Catocala louiseae in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. The image Vernon Brou sent me as Catocala louiseae from Louisiana has been moved to the newly created bastropi page. I have created or updated both the bastropi and louiseae pages on www.silkmoths.bizland.com/Catocala/catocala.html to reflect the changes. Thanks to Ricky Patterson for alerting me of the new Catocala name. Based on the Kons & Borth publication, it sounds like there will be additional Catocala species names put forward, probably by Larry Gall in the near future. New names are being assigned largely based on DNA barcoding analysis. Without doing the barcoding analysis, location should help to distinguish louiseae from bastropi as the two species seem not to be sympatric, i.e., there is no overlap in their respective ranges.
