I am planning on getting a camera with my birthday money and I am searching for the best ones. I am looking for something that is around $50 (I realize I cannot get the best with this amount of money), doesn't need to be good with action photos because I want very clear pinned specimen photos. The only ones I have looked at so far are the Nikon Coolpix.
Please let me know what are good or what not to get.
The things to watch out for is digital vs optical zoom features and macro capability. Optical zoom give you real resolution, digital zoom just blows the image up digitally (= lousy resolution). Many cameras have both functions built in to some degree - but some are pure digital. And it needs to have macro capability.
You may want to look at a used camera in that price range - some place like Adorama - which has good used stuff and allows easy returns (https://www.adorama.com/Used).
I use old Pentax cameras for the field - and typically get them from Adorama. That way, I don't ruin my good camera!
any one of of the big Producer is sufficient (Coolpix of course but also Canon or others). Just verify how close you can make photos and resolution adapted to you wish and use. Big or small insect, just to put on the web or to publish, in the field or only inside pinned insect, etc.. The biggest differences will come on lighting (some are really bad) and magnification (reported to the result you wish). A test is obviously the best.
s'il n'y pas de solution c'est qu'il n'y a pas de problème ! akuna matata ....
I shoot Nikon for my full size camera, but started with a Canon Powershot A620. It's a pretty old camera (7.1 MP) but it takes great macro shots. It has a flip out reversible view screen so you can get some weird angles if you want. It will focus very close (within an inch or two of the lens)and the files are still reasonably sized where you can take a ton of shots and not drown your computer. I even won a calendar competition with one of the shots with that camera.
I did a quick search and right now one is selling for $50 on Ebay... could be fate.
