I know – isn’t it great!!!! Me thinks the key to life is being comfortable in your own skin. In other words, I am who I want to be and I’d like to think I’m calm and happy. People who want to be more than they are – are typically less so. No? I'd like to be warm. On the verge of overheating. In some steamy jungle. Right now I wish I was just about only in my skin instead of wearing boots, jeans, a turtleneck, and fleece. Looks like my key to life took a left turn. I want to be more than what I am- I want to be me, but warm. There is that part of being comfortable in your own skin as well. Tomorrow is the last IU home game of the season. 100% chance of rain and in the low 50's. I know I'll have fun, but I'm guessing my better half and my son will whine to leave at halftime.... So, it is clearly time to think tropics. So right now I'm scheming at work to build a North/South agricultural best-practices learning group. Perhaps in January, I'll be in Brasilia. I'll be hot, sunburned, smelly and happy. Or not. But scheming about the tropics is what keeps me going through the winter. If this one falls through (the scheme is approved - but we're waiting to hear about our funding proposal), I'll move on to my next one - there's a conference next spring in the Blue Mountains just outside of Sydney... One way or another, I be hot and bothered. j

I have always wanted to be a part of a agricultural best-practices learning group. I also have hated winter since 1979. Can I go? I don't eat much.

I think everyone has given some good points in this discussion. Just respect everyone's opinion or views.

Ironically, I've been trying to exit our ag work over the last few years. But I have a few relevant contacts, at least in Brasil. And well, it is Brasil, so, I'll make the supreme sacrifice. My role will probably be in just getting it set up, and then the actual experts will take it over. We did something similar a few years back, and managed to get quite a few govt leaders, who had never met each other, up here to talk about national strategies. They did good things back then. With a new govt in place down there, we figured it might be a good time to re-start the discussions. I'm also hoping that I can end up in Curitiba, and I can collect a bit on permits from the University. Probably won't happen - but you gotta dream. And no-one eats "just a little" in Brasil. Fine dinning seems to be the national past time. j

You've got it made. What a job! My next employment adventure starts Monday in a factory with around 2000 other people molding automotive parts. I have tried and failed to get a job with USF&W or IDNR all summer.

Don't get complacent- search for and earn that career you want.

I have tried and failed to get a job with USF&W or IDNR all summer. I'll never complain about my position. But I will note that I worked my butt off to get it. I spent a few too many years in college. Served my time as an underpaid junior-cadet researcher in the consulting world doing grunge work in many of the most polluted placed in the US of A. In my free time, I volunteered in the name of lep conservation across the Midwest. And finally, I took a 20% pay-cut to work for TNC for a position where they assured me that "they would certainly try to find the funding to continue the position" into the future. After almost 25 years at TNC, I do indeed get a lot of job flexibility - but I'll note that almost everything I do with leps is in addition to my real job. And every year, I hope that we raise the money to pay next year's salary. I will also note that currently - I'm singularly focused on retirement in a few years. John

I think everyone has given some good points in this discussion. Just respect everyone's opinion or views. I'm sorry. I just cannot do that. For example, placing thousands of dead bodies in the Ganges and then bathing in and drinking the water is stupid. That they imported giant softshell turtles to eat the bodies is even more stupid- because the locals ate them. I live in a grey world, not black and white. But I do have to admit, there is black and white, and sometimes somebody's opinion is out there.

I have been traveling visiting family and friends for several days. I finally have an opportunity to check emails and a quick look at some of the list on am on, including Insectnet. I just read Mr Brou’s response to my comments and I must say, it was a beaut.
Mr Brou, first let me say that you are a great Lepidopterist, that is a well documented fact. There is no denying that. However, I had thought to respond to your post were you said “Shame on Me”. I am ashamed. I am ashamed that I even considered responding to your remarks. I have better things to do with my time than waste it responding to your deliberately hurtful comments.
I have read many of your posts here on Insectnet and those on FaceBook. They are not worthy of my time to respond. Maybe you should read them and then consider how others view your comments. It is all about you.
I withdraw my comments “You know everything about everything”. You do not. Least of all how to respect your fellow man.
As to all the others who read what I post here on Insectnet, I truly appreciate your comments. I have learned a great deal from all of you. I have also enjoyed some of the more humorous posts, especially “Big Foot”. I still chuckle and sometime out right laugh when I think of Blue Moth and Big Foot. You must admit it was fun.
I will endeavor to continue to help, learn and laugh on Insectnet. You gals and guys are great.
I also apologize if I have offended any of you.

Real value is assigned to those who take younger hobbyists and teach them. Thank you Mr. Serrano and others like Leptraps and Mr. Cotton. Therience treate hobby is going to die if those with experience treat kids like crap because they "don't have a degree and are not worth talking with." I see it here and elsewhere all the time. There is the shame. If the IRS accepts the write off at that value, no one here can really denigrate it.
