One thing I can say in regards to this matter is that whether or not Sasquatch exists, there is a part of me that hopes they are never discovered by the general public. We all need some mystery in our lives. Just look at how entertaining this one thread has been for so many readers out there.

The general public is so easily distracted "hey look over there!"

Time was when this used to be the best insect site in the world, some of the best collectors out there showing their superb collections for everyone to enjoy coupled with some great discussions, heated and side splitting at times, it seems now those days are sadly long gone and we have posts like this, most of those members have left now and who can blame them.

I completely disagree. This section is for everything else besides insects. Did you know that? There are some phenomenal members here whose knowledge is of great help. Many of those who have left may have good info but, as in many other science fields, have discouraged newbies from entering the field. Many of those here take the time to share info and entertain with info the next generations. The late Mr. Serrano did so with me and my daughters without the "Where did you get your degree" mentality. Now my children and I speak to groups nearly twice a week. Yes, some of those groups have discussed bigfoot with us too. Evidence that a field can be fun and more enter it. Having written that, the pages about bigfoot have been fun. I have proof of of a different "crypto" in my personal collection. It was very frightening and dangerous to collect on my last trip in the USSR but well worth it.

In this forum we can talk about anything, but it is good to avoid religion and politics. These days this kind of means avoid science too. Since global warming is now completely a political argument and evolution is a religious controversy. Bigfoot is a nonsense un-science topic that generates a lot of amusement. There have been other topic discussing music and pets and food ... You can start a new topic at any time. Of course anyone can reply with "stupid" posts. Why not give it a try?

The previous point made and replied to was not about stupidity. What was written may not be what was meant. A French member ran into this a few years ago. In looking up where you call home, inachisio65, I realize the most common thoughts of a UK citizen are much different than that of most Americans. Generally, I do not understand UK humor but I am Greek/German/and Aboriginal American and don't get American humor either. Bigfoot IS absurd as is Monty Python. The absurdity is the humor. I don't really care as "we of First Nations do not have a dispute with Hairy Man."

We did give it a try, a few years back we made up a church in his honour for the benefit of bettlebiker Geoff Crawley.

I still believe on Santa Claus. I know he exists. See him at the Mall every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Big foot is another story. I can go to the Mall and actually can talk with Santa. Of course all of us can go to the Mall and talk with Santa.
Can all of us do that with Big Foot?
Why am I even responding to this nonsense?

Actually it is a little known fact that it is Bigfoot dressed in a Santa costume at the mall.

I found this video on youtube the other day. What I have concluded as to the existence of Sasquatch or Bigfoot, is that most people do not believe in their existence (about 55 out of 100). Then there are those that say they could (possibly) exist (about 40 out of 100), and there are those that are absolutely convinced, either through sightings or family and close friends that have shared their encounters. I am of the opinion that some people have seen something they think could be one of these things, but are too shy to tell anyone about it due to fear of ridicule. I am still cautiously skeptic, simply because these creatures have eluded us for so long. For example....they are reportedly seen and photographed each year, but with all the deer and elk hunters venturing into wild habitats, why has not a single hunter come forward to announced actually shooting one and presenting it to science yet? There are literally thousands of heavily armed hunters venturing forth each season, with rifles chambered in very powerful calibers that can take down 700 pound animals with relative ease, so why not a bigfoot? Perhaps they become so shocked at seeing one that shooting it is beyond their ability, or perhaps they are fearful of shooting some prankster in a gorilla suit. I know it sounds funny, and rather ridiculous, but I cannot help but wonder why so many people are so adamant about their encounters, yet no-one has been able to bag one of these creatures. In my neck of the woods, I would never go out during deer season dressed as a Sasquatch. Too many trigger happy rednecks. I can't say one way or the other whether they exist, but I certainly would not dispute someone's testimony as to what they witnessed, because I wasn't there. I have yet to meet anyone that has claimed to see one, but have heard some interesting stories none-the-less. Just a precaution, there is some foul language in the video, so if you are offended just don't watch it. I included it because of the topic at hand and to illustrate how convinced some folks really are. Here's the link.

Beetlehorn, I think you are correct about the numbers of Sasquatch believers, but I think this reveals something different about humans. They haven’t seen something compelling, they are naïve and gullible. People differ enormously in how gullible they are. How much evidence will be needed to convince you of something? For a lot of people, no evidence is really needed. Just hearing that a friend feels very strongly about something is enough to convince some people.
Usually scientists demand a lot of good evidence and so almost all reject Bigfoot. However a local professor at our university (New Mexico) has gotten some bad press for believing the bigfoot nonsense and using some public money to have a bigfoot conference. So there are exceptions.
Bluemoth clearly is a believer and her evidence includes having bigfoot throw rocks at her, having them “talk” to her (maybe telecommunication? mind-melding?) and seeing stick structures she attributes to bigfoot. I think her evidence is very weak, but am still interested to see if they show up for her video.
Actually people deeply believe all sorts of nonsense. Our major religions emphasize that faith and believe (without evidence) is a virtue, a good thing. Scientists think believe without evidence is a bad thing. Although many scientists have very deep faith in their religion, they demand lots of evidence for the worldly things like bigfoot.
I think 5-15% strong believers in bigfoot simply indicates that (at least) 5-15% of humans can believe things with negligible evidence. The best bet is those are people to ignore, and just go with the evidence- no solid evidence for bigfoot means no bigfoot .

Here are some recent videos that people have done. Some of them look authentic, but a few of them are most likely hoaxes. The one in Louisiana seems the most compelling to me. From the reaction to what people think they are seeing it sure sounds very realistic because it is difficult to fake true fear. Along with being scared out of their minds, in some of the videos, they quickly react by running away from the immediate area in great haste. This kind of makes me wonder if that is the reason nobody ever shot one. I would still have to actually see one, dead or alive to really believe it exists. Anyhow, I thought I would share it here and let you decide for yourself.....see what you think.
