It's news to me that Argentina is completely off-limits to collecting. A famous international butterfly breeder resides there and as far as I know he has never had any problems. Also, I knew someone who about seven years ago collected in Argentina with a permit.

As far as I know you do not need a permit to collect in Argentina, except in protected areas. Sorry, I don't know anything about collecting regulations in Paraguay.
Adam.

Where do you get your information from Jaguarae? Just about everywhere requires a permit, but sometimes foreigners can get one. I was under the impression you can get one from Argentina.

I think that we need a permit to collect in Argentina .... what about the countries around ? he doesn't know

What was so bad about that reply? He was saying you need a permit for the entire country and each province... where did he say it wasn't doable?

Eveybody knows that if you don't work for university or if you don't have recognized person in your circle ,or in an association , it's impossible to get permits! That's why !

Do you know Spanish? Make some calls, talk to some of these universities. Perhaps the McGuire Center in Gainesville, FL can help you. You for sure won't get a permit if you don't try.

For Argentina, in principle we need permissions. That said, we have French friends who annually collect in this country. They are moths collectors. They collect with mercury lamps and white linen: it is not the height of discretion. They never had any problems with the authorities on the spot as to the airport for export of catches. According to these friends, the Argentine authorities do not care whether insects are collected (except in protected areas, such as the Iguaçu Park and where flies Morpho epistrophus West of Buenos Aires).

In Misiones officials will put you through hell and confiscate anything you collect and you will have to buy your way out of that corrupt province. If you are prepared to go through being held a captive in that province for weeks on end then be my guest.
