Thank you for the information Adam. This book looks to be a must for those that are interested in these magnificent insects. I wonder what the price will be?. Peter

The big question is if it being printed in China or where? China can print for about 1/4 the cost as compared to USA.

I hope it is not going to be printed in China, as the quality will be so poor ... Anywhere I believe the price is going to be really high !

The printing cost are not the main cost driver and Chinese printing quality can be excellent. What makes such a book so expensive is the small market and the immense time put into the production...

I have just received an e-mail from Gilles Deslisle with the following information about the new book:
OUTSTANDING BB NEWS
Given the fact that many new extraordinary specimens showed up after the announcement of the release of the BOOK in 2014 and we could not ignore, it took the addition of 150 pages, which explains the delay publication. Given the fact that a work of this magnitude requires a number of audits and negotiations, the impression is scheduled for late February or early March 2015.
Here is some information:
1642 Pages in 2 tomes: Tome I (page 1-813); Tome II (page 814-1642) 9225 Figures 139 Maps 11 Keys 1 Genus (Ornithoptera) 4 Subgenera (Schoenbergia, Straatmana, Ornithoptera and Aetheoptera) 11 Species 27 Subspecies 57 Local forms, + 12 (?) 235 Forms specific to 61 taxa (of which 75 nov.) 12 Biform specimens 156 Oddities 44 Gynandromorph specimens: 12 perfect bilateral, 6 imperfect bilateral, 9 mosaic morphology with mosaic abdomen, 4 mosaic morphology with male abdomen, 4 mosaic morphology with female abdomen and 9 unconventional. 52 Combinations of hybrids (187 specimens)
Data on specimens mainly based after the Jean-Pierre Sclavo and the Insectarium de Montréal (Deslisle Bequest) collections, but also from 50 of the most important reference collections of Birdwing Butterflies in the world. Male and female are illustrated life size, upper side and underside in full color, with their range of individual variations. Furthermore, superb imago’s photographs in the wild, early stages, host-plants and environment.
Man and Birdwing Butterflies (Historic Part) The most complete reference book about Birdwings Butterflies to date.

Funny, I emailed Gilles about this just a couple of days ago. Glad to see the book is on track. It's probably going to be $$$$$ though!

Still no price announced ! Seems very amateur to me ... Generally you give a prepublication price in order to get cash to pay the printer in time, and then the public price enables all the others to eventually purchase a copy ! In this case this book is privately published explaining the non experience in the business. No professionals seems to be partners in this project, and I am curious to see how they will succeed in the sales of this probably expensive book ?

I would say: You better off spending 500US$ and get (if not already) the "Birdwing Butterflies of the World" and the "Natural History of Birdwing Butterflies"... a little of Google translate for Japanese texts and you good to go.
When it comes to 'rare forms' or the so-called 'rare hybrids' (breeding program; everyone will remember the FANTASTIC pictures from the Brazza website in Indonesia with O. meridionalis x O. priamus and SO MUCH MORE): anyone willing to spend a 1000+ on this, surely able to spend a 1000+ on O. allotei, will prefer to buy the specimens and put them in a drawer instead of having them pictured on paper (also freely accessible on the web).
No?
