en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_parks_of_FranceJust found the above link that shows a map of the National Parks of France (No collecting areas) in purple and the Regional Parks which you can collect in I believe (correct me if i'm wrong Olivier). Rich

Right, some small areas inside regional parcs can be protected but it will be clearly written.

Yes some areas are marked as nature reserves within these regional parks so obviously no collecting there, but of the places I was looking at visiting only the col de l'iseran above val d'isere is a no collecting area, should find what I'm after further south though.
Thanks Olivier

ain't masseyi silver studded blues Bob? they are common blue, the left hand photo are from areas around swanage and Purbeck the right hand photo of a male and 2 very blue females came from a colony only a few miles from me, sadly gone, it was an old opencast coal mine used as a landfill site and then left to go back to nature, it was so good for butterflies that the local council put a fence around it, called it a "nature park" planted an assortment of native trees and left it to grow wild, there's only speckled wood there now it's so dark, though I think owls fly all day.

Hello ,
I don't know good spots in Lorraine (I never collected there). But not far from Lorraine, go to the Forêt de Châtillon. On Google Earth, ask for Châtillon-sur-Seine : the forest is just south-east. Go there before the transformation of the Forest into a Park or a Rservation area.
What is the status now of this forest ? It's a reserve or nat. park nowdays ?
Thanks a lot!! D.
