These nets have been tried and tested, I reckon they are pretty good. www.watdon.co.uk/the-naturalists/acatalog/Aerial_Nets.htmlI use the Kite net myself and have done so for over 40 years, I find I miss fewer butterflies with this shape rather than the standard 'round' nets. Remember to wash the net bag first though! Dave

Great tip, Dave! I guess I never washed the nets before I used them 30 years ago.
Adam.

A lesson I learned early on Adam, after catching many scale-less butterflies as a kid! It was an old lepidopterist who told me to do this, can't remember who as it was aeons ago. So whenever I need a new bag I buy a W. & D. one and put in in the washing machine for a cool wash with some fabric softener. Comes out as soft as anything. Dave

The Japanese have the best nets !, silk and other nets of similar fine material . I don`t know who can supply as dealers who visit or I know bring them for me or send if requested , handles are telescopic carbon fibre very strong , hoops are variable , but I like to make my own hoop out of fencing wire , as I`m mostly a beetle collector and when beetles are high up on the blossom I can simply bend the hoop horisontal to shake under the blosson beetles drop into the net and bend up again when chasing the next insect Leps for instance , I can bend the fencing wire hoop up or down for at least two seasons before it finally breaks and is easily replaced by a new piece of wire , to be able to bend the hoop is esential to catching that rare beetle high up on blossom or not .I`m a commercial collector so my nets cop a lot of work for several months during the season ,.The handle I use is 7 meters and I have made several extensions some on the but end of the handle and one on the top so I can get pretty high to catch good beetles .
