...rather a request. What's the best source (book or online resource) for ID'ing Morphidae? Many thanks in advance for any pointers Simon

Is there any other book written than the one by Blandin ?

Yes, Blandin's pretty good, it's what I use. Oliver Schaeffler's writing the Morpho volumes for the Frankenbach series but there's only one volume published so far and that's just the theseus group.

Thanks for the speedy replies gents...
Do you mean his three volume "The Genus Morpho" or his "Systematics of the Genus Morpho"?
I'd prefer the former but part 3 (in particular) is rather expensive...

Simon
I have both. Only the 3-part tome has plates so if you want it for IDs it's better. The systematics volume is far more complete and has a wealth of information but no plates.
I don't have a problem with ID to species level so I only really use the systematics volume.

Many thanks in advance for any pointers Simon I would use the new South American BOA web pages as a tool - Most of the types of Morphiinea are figured here - albeit not always very well. But you can copy these photos into a photo program and adjust them and see most of the pattern elements you need for IDs www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/Nymphalidae.htm
