I had tables at the Newark fair yesterday. Unfortunately not many people came through the doors and few of them were collectors. For the second year running I didn't even cover my costs so that's the last time I'll go all that way.
I miss Kettering...

So many of us miss Kettering Bob but who is going to do something about it? Certainly not Paul Holt. Zdenko Luchbauer said he had plans but I have heard nothing from him either. There must be a decent venue around the Kettering area we could use, a school or community centre for example? The Leisure Centre had become too big after the reptile people had to leave so somewhere smaller would be great. Anyone in that neck of the woods fancy having a go at getting one going? I would have two tables if they do. Newark is just too far away for a lot of us now. Dave

so much for my announcements, it started at 11am, I arrived an hour late. Simon, apart from the imperatrix pair I got a pair of papilio jordani, a male papilio mayo, cethosias vasala, moesta, gabinia, methypsea pairs, some European endemics and some abberations, I had a great time but I'm skint now.

Hey Dave and others. Everything is ready for us in Kettering. I just didnt have time to do it before my holidays. The place is exactly in town centre. Huge car park is available, bar and fast food gonna be there as well. Just gotta talk to them about parking fees - 0.90£ per hour is too much. I have been on the phone with someone and that gent said, there could be some places reserved just for us, but he couldnt say how many and for how long time. I have to sort it out still. Anyway, the place is not as big as that one before, but I think is big enough for us. Date - dont know yet - from Sept....do you know guys, when is Newark, London, Frankfurt, Paris, Prague venue ?
The other thing is, I have to invite different sort of ppl, I mean Arachnologists, maybe herpetologists....rent is quite high, cant affort to pay from my pocket, so gotta get there as many people as I can...do you mind this ?
I m gonna work on this hard, so hopefuly we will meet here again !
I m gonna keep you informed guys !

I wondered what had happened to you on this new forum - good to see you back.
All the major European fairs are in the autumn, as is the AES. One of the reasons Kettering was always the best British show (apart from the location) was the timing. It should definitely be in April as this is the best time for overwintered livestock and there are no competing shows.
I know there was a problem at Leicester because people thought the show was being taken over by herpetologists, so Jack eventually banned them. If the hall is smaller you might want to reconsider this. At Newark a couple of weeks ago about half of the tables were live insects, arachnids etc. which seemed a bit too much, but at least they're still insects (or nearly).
To try to find traders, the first step should probably be to advertise in the ELG list.

Frankfurt will be from 5th to 6th November, it is every year on the first weekend in November. I wish a lot of luck for the fair and maybe it is on a date that is also suitable for me and I can join in too (but don't pin me on that, I will have a huge examn in experimentall physics somewhere in fall )

Bob, I have been thinking do it twice a year...isnt it a good idea ? Early April would be fine, after half of the month impossible,` cos I m traveling every year at that time.
Well, If I m gonna invite only entomologist, then no way I m gonna get the rent fee back. Thats why at least arachnologists or another " beast breeders " have to be there = dont like it though...
Yeah, I m gonna advertise everywhere, just need to know exact date, so I m asking again > twice a year = 1 in April and another 1 say in October or just 1 in April ?
Hey Claude. You` ll be welcomed ! No joke, but first time when I have been in York selling = my friend`s european moth collection, we have made a fortune !

The AES at Kempton Park is the first weekend in October so I think you'd really struggle to get anyone to another fair in October. Also most of the European shows are in September, October, November, although there's not too much overlap with these. Juvisy is the last weekend in September (the week after Modena), Prague is the same date as the AES (which is why I can never go to the AES), and Frankfurt is the first weekend in November. There are also a lot of other shows that I don't bother to go to, so I think you'd be wasting your time at this time of year.
