Hi,
Your Scarabaeus species can't be identified without good photos of recto and verso, and if possible of aedeagus.
OK for P. marginicollis.

Hi Chris, I don't know why my comment on your blog has disapeared.... Here are some informations about collecting in France : Protected insect species in France : www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affichTexte.do?cidTexte=JORFTEXT000000465500&dateTexte=&categorieLien=idMoreover, collecting is prohibited in National Parks, Natural Reserves, some Natura 2000 areas, Biological reserves (in Fontainebleau forest, for example). Special laws for French departments and regions : Martinique : droitnature.free.fr/pdf/Arretes%20Ministeriels/Martinique/1995_0713_RegPrefMartinique.pdfÎle de France (region around Paris) : droitnature.free.fr/pdf/Arretes%20Ministeriels/Metropole/Protection%20Faune%20Flore/1993_0722_InsectesIDF_juillet2006.pdfLa Réunion : droitnature.free.fr/pdf/Arretes%20Ministeriels/Reunion/1989_0217_EspAnimalesReunion_f.pdfAbout Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyane, St Pierre et Miquelon, Nouvelle Calédonie, etc... : these are French territories, so, if there is no specific laws, this is the French law which have to be respected. No need to contact CRR. regards, Stéphane

I highly recommand the following book : The God delusion (Richard Dawkins, 2006)...
Strange that naturalists can be creationnists.... I really don't understand !

Have you the aedeagus ? I think that's it, but aedeagus should confirm.

I use this kind of classification :
Scarabaeoidea --> Dynastidae --> Cetoniidae ----> Cetoniinae ----> Trichiinae ----> Valginae ----> Geotrupidae ----> Scarabaeidae etc...
This is the taxonomic choice of Fauna Europaea too... Löbl & Smetana have made the choice of Scarabaeidae global family, with Dynastinae considerd as a subfamily...
I think that everyone can do as he wants... It is not very important...
