I'm pretty much convinced. I'd was also beginning to think about making a cyanide jar, but Bioquip doesn't appear to carry cyanide. Where do you get that?

Screech owls or another of the small owls, if I were to guess. It's making captures and then flying to a safe perch at which it processes (dismembers) and eats the moths. I'm also a birder and builder of screech owl nesting boxes.

I'm interested in hearing about how yours worked out. I think that I've looked at them online.

I'm thinking of getting a dissecting microscope. At 46, I'm having problems with small details even with reading glasses. Does anyone have any suggestions about makes/models or sources for these? What's the price range for a good one? Thanks!

I have found many in northwest Georgia . I was unaware that they were out of the recognized range here. I am glad that you raised the question.

Am I in any way short-changing myself in using non-acetone nail polish remover in lieu of regular ethyl acetate? Does the difference in the strength of the pure ethyl acetate and the lesser volume used compensate for the disadvantages in term of expense and complications in ordering it vs purchasing the nail polish remover over the counter? Thanks!

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether one is better than the other? Several webpages refer to home-built rigs with external ballasts.

Do the hard-core lep collectors degrease all of their specimens, or just some select ones for display? The photos that I've seen by different collectors of their acetone degreasing processes look as if you couldn't process a lot of specimens concurrently. One night's black-/MV lighting would take quarts (gallons?) of acetone? Thanks!

Just received my copy. What's everyone else's opinion of it? I've barely thumbed it. It's the typical Peterson guide in that it uses photographs and narrative text without a dichotomous key. It addresses different methods for attracting and photographing them, but doesn't not (so far as I can tell) discuss curation technique for collected moths.

How do you dispose of the acetone once you've exhausted its ability to draw out any more grease?
Thanks! Jim
