Are you sure? it doesn't look like one to me. Anyone else think it is that? Or know what it might be?

I have a question about breeding mantises. How long does the sperm last once a male mates with a female? I mated my female carolina mantis a week ago. So would she still have sperm if she doesn't lay her eggs for a while? That is if she has eggs developing becuase she just molted her last molt 3 weeks ago. should I mate her two times? I didn't mate her too early right?

I have 2 katydids that I want to pin and would like to know how to degut them. Do i have to degut them? I mean they are soft bodied insects and I am afraid they will rot if I leave the gut in there.

I couldn't believe it today I was looking at my bessbugs and saw a little larva and they have to be my Prionus (Neopolyarthron) imbricornis. Apparently the female was fertile and her eggs have now hatched! The eggs are dissapearing as in hatching. What do they eat? roots and stuff? I know they take forever to grow up though like 2 or 3 years.

I have no idea where to put this post so I put it here. anyway I was wondering what is the proper way to dry and preserve insects? Do I have to remove the gut? and if I don't is it ok? how are specimens usually prepared? I know people use formaldehyde but I do not want to use it. What I have been doing is just positioning the insect with pins right after it has died and then I let it sit in its pinned position for 2 weeks then put it into my pinning box. Is there something else I need to do to prepare my specimens? Inside my collection box it smells bad so I am guessing there is rotting action going on in there. I have looked online and in books but nothing seems to explain the process understandably.
any help would be appreciated.

I have tried putting in all kinds of plants. He might have nibbled a little on a type of clover.
I am located on the East Coast of the US.

I caught 2 chinese mantids a few weeks ago and they look a little different then my other ones i have. They both have bright orange under their arms where it usually is yellow. Does this mean they are a different species or maybe a different variant of chinese mantis? They were caught in a different place then the other ones I have.

They all survived while I was gone. Only one of my mantises had a bad molt and now she is all messed up and sadly she is my only adult female chinese mantis I have and the other one molted and turned out to be a male.

Yeah sorry I spelled cannibalism wrong, i was in a hurry and realized it was spelled wrong but just left it. It mostly happens when they molt though.

I just caught several cone headed Katydids yesterday and put them in a cage together and they ate one katydid already. How do you stop them from eating each other? What do katydids generally eat? it seems what I give them is never enough, every time one molts it gets eaten. What is a good setup for katydids? i have them in a medium size container. is the only way to keep them by having each one in its own cage? that hardly seems practical though.

are you kidding me that the first picture is a male of Prionus (Neopolyarthron) imbricornis? isn't that the same as the beetle in my other post 'is this a sawyer beetle' that is just not fair! I had a male and didn't know it! I could have mated her. I was asking the identification on a different bug site but no one knew what species my little male was and before I got here he died. so sad.
Does anyone know how to attract and or a find male Prionus (Neopolyarthron) imbricornis? I randomly found the first one on my back window at night.
