Here is a caterpillar that I found on the wed and downloaded the picture a few years back and cannot find the name or where I got the picture from. Love the look of this guy, looks like a dogs toy. If someone knows the name of this species I would be grateful for the information. Rich View AttachmentThat's a 5th instar Polythysana cinerascens larva. I took that picture (actually, that's my hand)

Thanks for the help Rick! These are pretty much harmless for the human being anyway, don't them?

I'm by no means an expert, but maybe it's a larva from the Arsenurinae subfamily?

Ohhh I see... I could've sworn it was a Coccinellidae. Thanks a lot for the clarification!
By the way, it seems it's not a very common bug, is it? I've tried googling it and found no images of it.

Hi there! Today I was browsing through my files and found this picture I took during my trip to Oaxaca in 2011. Any idea of the id of this fine ladybug? Thanks in advance!

There isn't any hops in my surroundings, but as I mentioned, there's plenty of U. urens.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi there!
A friend of mine told me he can send me eggs of this species during July, so I'm looking for foodplants for them in advance. He told me they would feed on Urtica dioica, but I'm not sure if we have that species in my country.
Do you know about alternative foodplants for this species? We have plenty of Urtica urens around here, do you think it would work as an alternative foodplant?

I've reared the ssp. guerreronis a couple of times on privet, and it was quite easy actually.

My story: I went to Oaxaca, Mexico during May this year to hunt Saturniidae and Sphingidae for my friend Bernhard. One night while I was hunting, this little Hemileucinae came down to the sheet. I thought it was nothing special, so I just took a photo of it and then released it. The next day I sent my friend all the pictures I took last night, and the "non-special" saturniid I let go turned out to be a male Mexicantha oaxacana, a recently discovered species of which at that point only 2 specimens had been caught so far. You can imagine how I felt LOL Anyway, for my luck, the next 2 days I was able to catch not one, but two specimens of that species, so everything was OK
