To attract insect the best type of flouresent bulbs are 350NM to 368NM. These are true blue in spectrum. Once the the NM increase to 370NM or beyond, they begin to turn "Red". And red is not good for attracting insects.
I use Sylvania Quantum Black Light Bulbs in my Light Traps. My preference is based on the distance the effective light is emitted from the bulb.
Most of the commercial Fly Trap manufactures use BL bulbs with the white coating. The light is virtually invisible to human eyes. You cannot see the actual emitted light, however, the flies can.
I am currently travelling, (I am actually at a Waffle House eating breakfast)I will post a photo of a commercial Fly Trap that are used in virtually every McDonald's Restaraunt around the world.
It must also be remembered that insects have compound eyes and only see light in the half spectrum.
