Who will be at the AES this October? I will go after a 15 year hiatus! Looking forward to it.

The AES fair has changed over the years, the continental dead stock dealers no longer attend, much more livestock, books etc, so still interesting. I shall be attending with my son Patrick as usual.

I'll probably will be there, for all the fun at the fair. However its hard to forget those early days at the AES, the 1970/1980s I remember best, what treasures there was for sale from many big dealers and cheap too and mostly serious collectors attending, now in go the masses, a right scrum with those narrow aisles, many creepy crawlie fans and a lot of over priced bad quality bugs except on a couple of tables. Great for books though and meeting people. Still a good day out but there are the memories of those much better golden days.

Ahhh well! Hope to see some old faces. I‘m flying all the way from New Zealand so should be a laugh! Let me know if I should bring some NZ stuff. I will be running a table with Martin Harman, son of my old friend Tony Harman.

I have to agree with Peter, the shows now are a pale imitation of days gone by, as is the hobby, there are still exiting species to find but nowhere near as many as before, it seems to cater more for the new breed with table upon table of creepy crawlies, cheap common shiny swallowtails and morphos and very little else, I'm so glad I'm not starting out in lepidoptery now.

Kirk,
Can you get hold of any of the larger wetas? I'm also interested in the bat-winged cannibal fly Exul singularis.
Thanks

Nope. Protected. And the flies require a helicopter to get to Deniston Plateau!

Great! I will try to get a couple flies from an entomologist friend. Tried to post some giant weta pics from the museum but it is not straight forward.
