I thought that the story I told was all there was to be told. Well, let me add something that I recently learned.
Back in early April my wife and I traveled to Faber, Kentucky to visit a cemetery and then to Cumberland Falls State Park for lunch with some friends. We ordered lunch and while waiting for our lunch to be served, I was approached by a woman who ask me if I was Leroy Koehn. I acknowledge her and I would learn that she was from Radford, Virginia and she worked for me when I lived in Dublin, Virginia. We exchange telephone numbers and went our separate ways.
The area code of her telephone number was Wisconsin.
I remembered her, but I must confess, she appeared to have struggled with life. There was "that" look.
Several days ago she called me. We talked for several minutes. Life had not been good to her. Several marriages, a son in prison and she was living with her sister in Wisconsin. And then she ask me about Cliff Hopkins. I was somewhat surprised. I would learn that she was the care giver to the late Cynthia Anne Hopkins, Cliff's widow. My name had surfaced during the time she was the care giver.
Cliff's collection of insects was sold at auction to someone in Georgia. However, the most astounding revelation, Cliff had another family in Canada, wife and several children. Cliff was leading two lives. One in Canada, the other in the USA.
My question, how do you do that, live two different lives. Better yet, how do you afford to do that. I made a very good living while employed, even so, I could not afford two wives and 7 children.
I told my wife the story. She looked at me, smiled her pretty little smile, and she said, and I quote, "If you would have done that to me, I would not kill you, however, your new title would be: "Leroy, the nutless wonder". And if I know my wife, I would have been speechless as well....
