That is just crazy. I now you typically don't see peoples death because of ants.

see also the post in insectnet.proboards.com/thread/5479/weekend-adventures" .... this tree is a Barteria, the "tree of infidelity" as, in Cameroon, a cheating wife is attached to it and is bitten by hundreds ants (and dies). A simple contact on the tree is sufficinet to alert the ant colony that defend the tree. Quite all trees of this species are colonised by this ant (it is a case of coevolutution with a mutual benetit) the ant is Tetraponera aethiops (a big and furious ant).... " Note that drunk men are sometimes killed during they sleep hardly (because of being drunk) by ant army Dorylus (African)

The first Amphion nessus I found was lying dead in the gutter covered with ants. I was very excited!
