From what I have read from various sources, It seems like the best sheet setups have a black light and a mercury vapor light at the same time. I also read that clear MV are better. Is this correct? Thanks

Some place on the site and I have no idea when, I posted a rather lengthy response to your question. I will make this short. Mercury Vapor bulbs bulbs and ballasts were regulated into history by the 1995 Energy Bill. There were some exceptions: medical, industrial and science, No more street lights, parking lots, security lighting, etc, etc. By 2005 they were about gone. Most MV replacement bulbs available today are actually Metal Halide hybrids and unlike MV must be coated (white). There is only one manufacture of MV bulb and they only produce 160, 250 and 500 Watt clear bulbs and these are all self ballasted. They also produce a line of MV Bulbs for the Herp people to keep their snakes warm. These are all coat and are "spot light type". The white coating blocks most of the UV but not the light (some age old regulation for interior use). In short, true Meucury Vapor bulbs with clear glass are hard to find and in the not to distant future will be impossible to purchase new. And they are already expensive. Visit www.leptraps.com. I still have them in stock. Lastly and to answer your question, clear glass MV bulbs emitt UV, coated only emitt a small amount. Personally. I like light traps. You can set one out a'll night and go home and sleep all night or keep the lady or ladies in your life happy. It works for me.

What are we going to use when all the MV are gone? Is there a substitute?

I learned an interesting fact this AM. I found a supplier for MV, however, they are all directional spot lamps. This are non-coated MV Self Ballasted bulbs. These are used to cure UV Paste for automotive trim assembly.
I purchased several and will give them a work out in Utah in early May.
UV paste and glues are super strong, remain flexible and are orderless.
