First: Clark, any thoughts about a separate section on our fore-fathers who researched butterflies?
Anyway, I have a machaon collected by Dr. A Schulte in Hanover in 1938. A quick google search revealed a number of references to A Schulte, and more Schulte (no name or initial) from 1906 to 1990.
Anybody know anything about Herr Doktor A. Schulte in Germany?

When you say "anybody" you mean "Nomad" right, cos he's the man for historical, specimens / collections / collectors, I think some late night winter Google searches are in stall for one member!

Dr Adolf Schulte was probably the biggest dealer in the world for Parnassius and Colias specimens back in the 80s and 90s - I bought many specimens from him. On his death in the mid 90s his collection containing many types and rarities was sold to a Japanese; I know this person quite well but he doesn't want it generally known that he bought Schulte's collection.
Schulte described several new taxa of Parnassius and Colias (and some others), although the papers weren't always that well researched.

I remember him during my firsts inseketenborse in Frankfurt. It is at his stand (old location), I seen the first Actias dubernardii (during the 80s) and some very uncommon Colias and Panassius (at this time it was very difficult to get Chinese or Russian material). One told me the red rings of some his Parnassius were manually repainted :-)
