As my website (and InsectNet also) are promoting insect trade also via Ebay, I think a discussion about "Ebay selling rules guidelines" could be interesting.
I have posted my personal point of view on my website here : www.collector-secret.com/index.php/blog/ebay-selling-rules-guidelines/
Here are the "Ebay selling rules guidelines" I recommend :
EBAY SELLING RULES RECOMMENDATIONS :
1/ Description :
As some bad sellers are using fake data or fake ssp name to raise prices, be sure to use the right sp and spp name of your insect.
If you have any doubt on the spp. name, CS recommends you to write "Parnassius epaphus ssp.". Do not write a ssp name if you are not 100% sure. Before posting a new Ebay item, you can ask advice of wordwide experts on InsectNet forum or on Facebook Insect Group if you have any doubts about an identification.
2/ Data :
Please write the full data you have in the item description.
Do not write "full data" as it means different things for many entomologists.
If you have only partial data, please clearly say it
3/ Grading :
An A1 butterfly must be perfect. If there is a minor damage, just write it clearly in the item description (antennae repaired).
4/ Pictures :
Be sure that your pictures are representative of the specimen. Especially if not A1, be sure to post a picture that clearly show the damage.
5/ Pricing :
Pricing is the business decision of the seller.
6/ Shipping costs :
Clearly explain your shipping cost policy
7/ Search spamming :
Search spamming is forbidden by Ebay rules. If you sell a Lycaenidae, NEVER write "Lycaenidae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae" in the description to attract more visitors. Your account will be suspended by Ebay rapidly
Do you have any other guidelines for EBay sellers ?
I would be interested by the point of view of insectnet members.
I will personnaly push these guidelines via my website, my facebook groups and so on:
The objective is to improve the Ebay buying experience of all customers.
