It's not difficult to make your own traps based on the standard design available online if you can't find anywhere selling them in the EU.
Adam.

Thank you very much for all your answers. But one question.... What is best to put in that empty plates to attract butterflies? Rotten fruits or maybe some chemical preparation, but for this second one Im not sure Thank you

Make your own traps. How hard could it be? There are numerous websites on the WWW concerning trap construction and appropriate bait(s) if you just spend the time to research them.
Good luck in your endeavors.

I highly endorse these traps as well - bugdorm.megaview.com.tw/pop-up-butterfly-bait-trap-cone-type-pack-of-6-p-143.html. They are super lightweight - and most importantly, pack into their own little carrying bags. I just took eight of these to Belize, packed in my carry-on luggage that also had all my clothing for two weeks. Try that with other traps. I used home-made traps and heavy commercial traps for over 15 years, and they worked just fine. But these are the best by far I've ever used. I did have to modify them to make them suitable for the tropics. Two simple steps - the top hanger was replaced with monofilament fish line so that ants would have a harder time getting inside. And the hole in the top of the retention cone is way too small for tropical species - so I changed it out for a plastic ring about 22cm across. That allows Morpho and Caligo to enter the trap - and the shorter cone still keeps them from easily flying out the bottom. You can see these changes on the photo below. Also – there are some photos I posted a few days ago in the Field reports section under “Belize 2014”. Good bait depends on where you are. In Belize, I slice ripe banannas with very ripe plantains (both with skins still on) Cover with water, add a cup of raw sugar, and start the fermentation with baker’s yeast. In 24 hours you will have working bait. Keep it working by adding liberal amounts of sugar everyday (ongoing alcohol production is very important) and fresh fruit as needed. John

Well done, John (jshuey).
Very constructive and positive feedback in your post above. Nothing like a recommendation based on actual field experience from someone that knows what they're talking about. Bravo!

Bananas baits (bananas + sugar + beer + alcohol) work fine in Central America and French Guyane (for example). In Cameroon, local collectors prefer mangoes than bananas (it's OK for Euphaedra and others). On the other hand, in Andean forest, fruit baits are not so good. In Ecuador, we used this disgusting bait with terrific results : rotten fish in very small pieces + urine. As said, terrific results with Riodinidae, Nymphalidae. Mashed hygienic paper has good results with Hesperiidae and, even, Pieridae. See (all pictures from Ecuador) : Photos 1 and 2 : skippers and Dismorphia on mashed paper. Photo 3 : the mashed paper bait is OK also for Mantis ! (mashed paper behind the label) Photo 4 : Archaeoprepona licking rotten fish (+ urine) bait Photo 5 : Memphis on very rotten shells With such baits, you don't need a trap !! At least, only for canopy butterflies.

Mashed hygienic paper has good results with Hesperiidae and, even, Pieridae. Do you add anything to the paper? Or just water? I'm excited to try this out in Africa and see if the skippers there respond to it in the same way. In the D.R. Congo I can testify that banana bait works well enough, but success seems to vary depending on the day and the quality of fermentation. I've also seen leps coming to mango peels in my compost heap, but have yet to try mangoes out in the forest. Fish bait has worked wonders. I've placed the leftovers after cleaning a fish in a sealed container with a bit of water and actually forgotten about it for over a month... it still pulled in more butterflies ( Nymphalidae, and curious Papilionidae) than any fruit baits I've used. Now, I don't have very much experience with it, but the experts around here tell me the females will not come to carrion... so that's a big draw back. Tom

Pardon to interfere in your..... First: it is necessary to know the geography, climate and habitat where a person will collect butterflies or moths..... We go to the History: You know that formerly the " Salt " was used as payment currency!!!! Of there drift the word wage... the Salt taenia the value of Gold!!!!!!! Without her no alive organism can survive... For it and in places where the " Salt " is not plentiful in natural form... it is the best Bait!!!!! and of where they obtain it: If in a place of the forest you urinate permanently... don't doubt that there the butterflies arrived (males only!!!) to suck the same one and that they need for their future reproduction... The females will only go to the nectar of the flowers..... For that reason the recommendation of putting rotten fish or "fruits in decomposition in the baits.... For that? Because there the salts and accidos that they need are "!!!!!!!!! These baits don't SERVE IN THE HIGH MOUNTAIN!!!! neither to capture females!!!!!! And it stops moths, we simply look for a Tree in the forest, and we paint it (a fringe anything but) with you formulate them that he/she explains the book Butterflies Argentinean Volume 1. Modestly... Ripheus. www.mariposasdelmundo.com Pardon for the not well English one that I speak!!!!!!

If you at some time come to visit Argentina, a place to recommend is the Cataratas del Iguazu (Misiones). Besides visiting the Museum Butterflies of the World in Buenos Aires where they rot to obtain all type of specimens, articles, books and many things but (www.mariposasdelmundo.com ) But as me said, if they visit the Waterfalls (it is Tropical climate and the Salt doesn't exist in natural form) you observed that when you walk for the gangplanks the butterflies they settle in the handrails or in its heads!!!!!!! It is not that the butterflies are tamed or they come to greet you..... They simply come to Obtain or to eat the necessary salt for their feeding.... And of where they obtain it? Of the perspiration of our body!!!!!!!! The Salt is not only used to attract butterflies in that region, but to attract Tigers and bigger animals!!!!!! It is always necessary: To know the geographical place, climate and characteristic of the natural habitat to choose a bait "... Any doubt, and in modest form... I can advise to the person that writes me..... Pardon for my not well English one. Ripheus.
