I asked an artist friend if she would mind painting me an unseasonal M.arion on a Christmas decoration to hang on my tree this year. She did a lovely job, I think. So I shall be commissioning some more butterfly baubles next year. Any suggestions on species? Should I stick to my dearly beloved lycaenidae, or include some of those brash nymphalidae?!
£15 including packing and postage - which I thought was very reasonable for a unique, hand-painted and infinitely reusable piece. And no worries about museum beetles!
PM me if you'd like me to give you the contact details of Sally (my artist friend). She's done a lot of butterfly illustration in the past, and comes from a family with a super-impeccable place in the history of British lepidoptery, which makes the work she does that bit more special and cherished.
