You may have noticed in the last few months that Classified ad posters are now required to select a valid Country from a list of valid Countries as part of their address. This modification was to lay the groundwork for searching ads by Country in the Advanced Search page. This has now been implemented (see image). A long time coming! Try it out, mongers! classifieds.insectnet.com/hsx/classifieds.hsx?session_key=;view_database_button=onAttachments:

Not sure it's a good thing for non-US sellers who are many to advertise on your site Clark...

Not sure it's a good thing for non-US sellers who are many to advertise on your site Clark... Why is that?

Because some US customers will tend to browse offers with US sellers only and overlook items from European sellers (because of US import tax and so on).
They won't be "tempted" anymore by European material...

They won't be "tempted" anymore by European material... That sounds like me! LOL! I don't have an import permit (it is not cost-effective for small time operators) so I just skip ads that are not originating in the USA. I'm no longer 'tempted' to import stuff from Europe after seeing how some of my colleagues were heavily fined and put out of business for doing it without the permit. Anyway, the 'Country' field is no longer a free-form text field. Posters are required to select a valid country, even if it is a lie. The next step will be to get the IP address of each ad displayed in the ad itself. This way we can compare the IP location with the 'Country' selected for the ad. This will keep posters more honest, and that is the ultimate goal of these enhancements, to push back on the scammers.

Putting the IP address in the text of the ad would be a great idea, definitely some small help against scammers.
Adam.

I get so many ads with false Countries of Origin, you would not believe it! So I will be negotiating with my Classifieds vendor to add that field as the next step. It will depend on how much they are going to charge me for the enhancement.

Clark, I have another enhancement to suggest to you. Today when you place an ad, you have to choose a duration of 30 days, 60 days or 90 days. But most of ebay auctions don't dure more than one week.
Being able to select "1 day, 3 days or 7 days" in the ad duration will avoid to have already finished auctions in the classifieds first page.

I live in Australia (without a permit to import internationally), so until now I've hardly looked at the classifieds because most offers are from overseas. Now I can view just the Australian offers. Making the classifieds searchable by country is more useful for me, and maybe for others outside the US too.

jamesd... You do not need an import permit in Australia if you are bringing in personal collection items which are not CITES, not on a restricted list from another country, dead, with no infections/infestations... I believe you can also export items fulfilling the above prerequisites if they are of non-Australian origin... Do not, however, try to export ANY Australian specimens without a valid permit and customs clearances...

Being able to select "1 day, 3 days or 7 days" in the ad duration will avoid to have already finished auctions in the classifieds first page. I see that I can do this myself very easily in the Admin panel. So I have added some more ad durations choices for you auctioneers. Starting off with 1 day seems a bit extreme, so I have it now set up like this: 3 days 7 days 10 days 30 days 60 days 90 days
