Hi all,
I am just back from my collecting trip in Sulawesi / Koh Phi Phi and everything went very fine !
Sulawesi : wonderful mountains, still some pristine jungles, find many interesting leps (still a lot of ID job to do) including rarely offered Nymphalidae and some rarities like Delias surprisa female. Also caught some stunning leps like Graphium androcles !
Adam < I think I have one polytes for you from Kulinjiang between Enrekang and Rantepao. Did not seen any around Rantepao/Puncak Palopo.
Koh Phi Phi : Well I made a lot of scuba diving ... but I found many interesting leps thanks to Jean-Marc advices (Papilionidae, Euploea, Ideopsis, Cethosia).
Regards, O

Alejandro < yes photo will come, but now I am just trying recovering from the jetlag and the loss of 20°C JM< No snakes or islamists but hundreds of moskitos and few leeches in Sulawesi as it is the rain season (but the weather was very sunny, just rainy at night, thus very very good for butterflies) + former forest paths to reach good localities in Puncak have been destroyed by mudslides last summer and now you have to walk for hours in difficult small paths (lot of falls but no broken bones) to reach these places.

They are coming at last! Hahaha, don´t stop Olivier, now that I´m in the city I need to open my window in the early morning and breathe deeply fresh air while watching such nice landscapes. This way I got enough motivation for the rest of the day. Regards!

It's so nice to talk about the forests of Sulawesi when it is cold winter in Paris!

South Africa ? That's great ! Within 10 days, I'll be taking butterflies pictures in the Mata Atlantica (Brazil). There, to-day, the heat was between 30 and 36° C !!! By the end of February, I'll add some pictures on InsectNet ! ;D

Your picture (biotop of P. blumei), I was at this same place in 2005. I remember as it was yesterday : there was too a lot of A. dixonii. . I would say that this location, higher in elevation (about 200 m more) than the place I was in 2008, is much better for leps.
