Nomenclature can take a little deeper inquiry sometimes. first the name of the offending fish- apparently there is some debate as to the word being offensive to the relevant people, and I know there is a valley in Calif. Then I was thinking about some stereotypes, like people who ride motorcycles, and that cellophane tape you wrap gifts with, what's that stuff called again? If something is truly offensive, it should probably be changed, but it's not always as straight forward as a news article.

It seems this thread continues to evolve down a "prickly" path we should no longer continue going down.
We have discussed it.
I think enough conjecture has been bounced around regarding the topic and it is therefore time to move on...
There is a WORLD of insect topics which can be discussed here. Even if one cannot post pictures about something that has always interested you --- the topic can still be touched upon.
I have many threads across a broad range of insect topics so as to invite interest from a wide range of members.
If we try NOT to fixate on any one thread the forum will stay lively, invigorated, engaged, and interesting.

As a being of minority descent, I would think that writing that my group of people are going to take offense is rather derogatory and, dare I say it, construed as racist. I'd much rather ask if I did not know you what you meant by that. If I judge by what I know about you, then I say tv has a good heart and does not mean anything bad. Same is true of those who posted the word that whites assume is a trigger to a 'group.' Jan has often said things about religion. Is Jan a hater? I don't think so. Jan has a strong opinion of a group (those who have a religion though I could be incorrect) and I choose to not take offense. If someone wants to take offense then either we can have a civil discourse or someone could depart. Personally, I do not want people here who take offense from a simple discussion to learn. My people have words like buffalo soldier. One meaning is descriptive but considered mean an the other meaning is a compliment. Same term but two meanings. How in the world will we learn what is not appreciated if we do not discuss?

OK I think we've covered it all now. Let's close, and talk about insects again please.
